Practical uses of your old silica gel packets

Some hacks do not withstand the test of time. They are victims of technology that is continually changing or simply falling out of fashion. However, when it comes to silica gel packets, the silica gel hacks are still of top quality.

What is Silica Gel?

Silica gel is beneficial because it is a desiccant, meaning it can absorb and hold moisture. Silica gel packets are a convenient and cost-effective way to protect businesses from unnecessary moisture or spoilage in their products. These packages contain all kinds of things that need to be kept dry or unused, including electronics, supplements, leather goods, dried meat products, and more.

The complete guide on how to reuse silica gel packets and various silica gel hacks are given below:

  • 1. Save your mobile phone

Your phone dropped in the water? Save it with silica packets! Simply place the phone with a few packets in a plastic baggie and let it sit for 24-48 hours. It is more efficient and less powdery than rice.

  • 2. Prevent tools from rust

Put a few packets of silica gel into your toolbox. The gel will absorb excess humidity and help keep your tools free from rust.

  • 3. Extend the life of razors

If it feels like your razors are rapidly deteriorating, then the most likely culprit is excess moisture. And even though you wipe the blades dry, extracting all the moisture from inside is almost impossible! But you can keep your razor drier when you don’t use it, by putting it on a silica gel pack. So make your razor last longer by trying this silica gel DIY, the packet absorbs the excess moisture and condensation!

  • 4. Fresh your gym fitness bag

Put a couple of gel packs into your gym bag. They will help to absorb the moisture (and the smell) from your workout clothes and shoes, helping to keep your bag fresh.

  • 5. Electronics security

Keep a silica gel packet with a lens or a projector anywhere you store some electronics. These products are extremely sensitive to moisture and condensation, so a cheap insurance policy against moisture damage might be to store a gel pack with them.

  • 6. Prevent tarnish silver

Place a few packets of gel inside your jewelry box and next to your pretty silverware. This silica gel hack will help toKeep silver items dry and prevent tarnishing.

  • 7. Keep books secure

Maintain dry and less musty smelling of your book collection by storing it with silica packets. You can scatter a few of them around your bookcase and even store a package in the pages of your oldest book.

  • 8. Prevent your pills

If you have vitamins, medicines, and other pills in your bathroom, put a packet of silica gel in each bottle to help keep them dry. Bathrooms are extremely humid, and any time you open the bottle, your pills are exposed to moisture.
