To completely change the Paralympic wheel chair, BMW has taken a noble initiative. BMW’s creative consultancy “Design Works” is working with the US Paralympic track and field team. This team was committed to change the Paralympic wheel chair completely. BMW has introduced the speed contest as never been introduced before.

This new design was focused on its aerodynamics and other mechanical parts. Other than that, they have put emphasis on steering and braking. This team is vigorously working on the weight of these wheel chairs and to reduce the weight. They have used rig and carbon fiber. These wheel chairs were designed to hold the racer with maximum security and they will provide optimum control at high speed.

BMW’s marketing vice president has mentioned about this in his email, he says “To perform at the elite level, the athlete needs to be comfortable and confident in their equipment” and he has also mentioned about the goal of the company. BMW team is still working closely with the field team to make sure they are going to deliver the best. The company is looking forward to creating top-end racing wheel chairs which will be like bullets on wheels.

Better Design

These wheel chairs are oriented for forwarding motion and slipping through air with minimum resistance. In these wheel chairs, the rear wheel tip is designed to keep them out of the way of drivers or racers arm which actually provides better stability and aerodynamics.

All the elite racers can achieve up to 20 mph (32.2 kph) even without these modifications. Imagine what they could do with proposed modifications by BMW.

Feedbacks for better designs

BMW Design Work team will closely work with different athletes and coaches. They will make sure that their ideas get executed in real-time. The design work team has taken many feedbacks and integrated them in the latest designs to deliver the best. These wheelchairs can be used for sprint race like; 100 meters to 800 meters, and even for long distances like 5000 meters to any marathon. All these wheel chairs follow the regulations for T53 and T54 classes which classify the athlete’s type of spinal injuries.

Expertise for bestTo produce the best, BMW has done a partnership with the team USA and they have spent around six years to implement the aerodynamics knowledge. BMW made its debut for these chairs in Rio Olympics 2016 and these highly effective wheelchairs supported many athletes. Other than these Paralympic Wheelchairs, BMW has contributed in many training tools for the US long jumpers and swimmers. These magical wheel chairs are surely goanna give wings to many athletes and they will be able to show their best capabilities
